Item Details and Description

This is a 1980s  medium-weight deadstock tsumugi (pongee silk); originally intended for making an everyday wear kimono.

Pedigree: This is what is called deadstock -- new/never used stock, but aged.

Description:  This fabric is a dark navy-blue color background with figures in checkerboard arrangement;  Design elements are yellow-tan and average 1.75 inches/44.45mm X average .5 inches/12.7cm;  most of them resemble birds (swallows) in flight -- a common historical Japanese motif; Other elements are in "X" shape, or as 4 ovals in '+' arrangement (please see close-ups); many of the elements have thin rusty-red or orange lines within them; same on both sides;Tsumugi like this is lightly textured to the touch with some threads with 'bumps' in the weave; the fabric is slightly stiff with limited drape, typical of tsumugi.

Recommended for making scarf/accessories.
