Item Details and Description

  • Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s or earlier silk fabric pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.

  • Fabric Description:  This is an unusual find: thin summer silk slightly translucent and soft; background is black with full field of .25 inch / 6.35mm elements that may be interpreted as flowers or even cherry blossom trees; There are also angular white medallions (3.5"/8.89cm X 2.75"/6.99cm), stepped lines as borders, with perhaps trees or flowers within, and each with metallic gold appliqué accents; The small dark red elements fill the fabric, with obtuse lines (1/8th inch / 3.17mm) thick, peach-white; cascading; Designs on one side; slight drape; This very small komon suitable for doll dress makers.

  • Colors: Please note that colors and contrast may differ on each device. Use our text descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric.

  • Condition: Excellent

  • Recommended for making scarves/accessories; doll clothes
