Fabric History/Provenance: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This is lightweight silk from a girl's ceremonial kimono; Background color is a brighter(deep) golden-yellow color throughout, with the entire fabric interwoven with many flowers and leaves, all arranged in a diagonal grid (this is only easily visible in the background spaces); the interwoven patterns have sheen;The printed designs are of large cloud-shapes with cherry-blossoms and pine needles inside, and with a wide variety of childrens' traditional toys, games, symbols, Palace Dolls( gosho ningyo) at-play etc. in the yellow spaces; The following additional items seem afloat in the yellow spaces between the clouds: treasure chests, Royals' cap, origami cranes, balls, badminton paddles, spinning tops, small festival hand-drums with 2 dangles, pinwheels, kites, cats, Royal ornate picnic box, koi-fish, books, tsuzumi hand-drums, and others!; Colors of the designs are many, mostly bright reds, blues, purples, greens, blues, greens (at the center of blossoms), and pastel hues of white to off-whites, some grays; Print is on one side but slightly visible on the reverse; soft fabric has good drape; Recommended for making scarf/accessories.
