Fabric Description: Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage Kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric from the 1990s.
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, stiff; black background color fabric with large-scale designs being average 7 inches / 17.78cm at longest dimension, cherries and leaves throughout; Colors of designs are gray, green, pale-aqua, yellow, red and burgundy-red (Please see close-ups); same on both sides.
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here. Because of the methods used, authentic kasuri is usually highly expensive. More info on kasuri below:
