Fabric Description: Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric; Because it has images, this type is sometimes called e-gasuri (lit. picture-kasuri).
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly firm (not stiff); black fabric with pairs of plus-sign designs arrayed in diagonal fashion; figures are in several shades of red, as well as pale blue ; same on both sides.
Notes:
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
