Item Details and Description

Fabric History/Pedigree: 1980's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE

Fabric Description:  This unusual and distinctive Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a lightweight pongee type silk that is only slightly translucent; the entire fabric is rendered by very tiny off-white pink pixelated horizontal weave lines which creates a gauze-like web field for the whole fabric(see close-ups); the background (beneath the 'gauze') is dark-plum and the flowers are in a variety of grayish-lavenders, tans, blues, greens and pinks; the flower figures shown are arrayed in uneven rows, all about 1 inch / 2.54cm diameter; the reverse side is more subdued in tone than the front.

Colors: Reminder that colors differ on each device so please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the look of this piece.
