Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This delicate 1960s silk is a very lightweight, sheer,  translucent black summer kimono fabric with  2 pairs of grape leaves, each 2 inches/ 5.08cm at widest; the leaves are 1 pair of metallic copper(w/gold) and the other pair is metallic silver --  both brocaded into the fabric; Most likely this was from a summer garment, due to its sheer nature; To explain the sheer quality:  if the fabric is held up in a lighted room it can be completely seen through; the fabric is soft with slight drape.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices.

Condition: Excellent for age, with a few small pinholes from the Arai-Hari process.

Recommended for making scarf/accessories, or sashiko artistry.
