Item Details and Description:

Fabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall by clicking HERE;

 For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

  • Fabric Description:  light-medium weight Japanese silk, minimally translucent; This piece is full shibori (tie-dyed) with classic tiny dots (kanoko / fawn spot patterns) in white on red for most of the length; at the end is an approximately 18inches / 45.72 cm long interpretive fan with floral design and decoratie cord figure; this was probably from a fashionable nagajuban silk garment, worn with formal kimonos; due to the shibori tie-dyeing process, the fabric is in relief and slightly textured to the touch.

  • Color Accuracy: Screen settings and contrast vary by device. Please refer to our text descriptions for the most accurate sense of the color.

    Condition:  Excellent.
