 For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Very fine, sheer chirimen crepe, very lightweight silk, deconstructed from a younger woman's summer kimono; This is a 1930s-1950s fabric piece which has a cream-white color background;

This fabric is a simple motif of large flower arrangement and uchiwa type fans randomly placed; Also, there are the classic moving water placed along side flowers; Many flower types used: Chrysanthemums, Chinese Bellflowers (Kikyo), peonies, bamboo leaves, and morning glories;   Design colors used: include: predominantly darker reds and orange, with dark blue, dark pink, light moss-green, fuscia and white; a few touches of light yellow; as a print, all this is on one side but due to thinness of the farbric it can be seen somewhat on reverse.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.
