dividerFabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE

For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Very fine, soft lightweight silk, slightly translucent and deconstructed from a younger woman's kimono; This is a 1930s-1950s fabric piece which has a fuschia/dark pink color background with  entire fabric interwoven with wide variety of traditional retro themes, designs; These are interwoven for entire fabric, and is in sheen.

Here are some of the retro (to Edo Period , late 1800s) themes/designs interwoven throughout this fabric:  Imperial or artistocratic manors with various types of classic style fences with portal gates, flowers, fans, stylized ponds (using fine parallel lines); these are difficult to see, also, the printed foreground main design of multiple open fans pretty much fills the fabric field; Interestingly, each fan is differently decorated: many flower types(classic) as well as children's themes of toys, origami cranes, treasure mallet  etc.

Other colors used:  light creamy-white, mustard-yellow, dark green, characoal-gray, dark blue, aqua-blue, dark red, tan and pink; as a print, all this is on one side but due to thinness of the farbric can be seen somewhat on reverse; quite alot going on here.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.

Suitable for Framing; Also recommended for making scarf or accessories
