dividerFabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE

For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Light, but dense weave, somewhat translucent, dark brown  to black silk  *in lower light appears black), fabric deconstructed from a woman's kimono; This is a 1960s  or earlier fabric piece which has interwoven pattern of .75 inch /  19.05 mm tall diamond figure elements, each comprise of 9 lighter  "+"s arranged as 4sided rhomic/diamond; Also, most interesting is lengthwise five bands which are NOT translucent; this can only be seen by holding up the fabric to a bright light;  The weave is distinctive in that it is thicker yet translucent (as described above), with a bit of elasticity; This has some drape and we recommend this be used to make scarf or  accessory; quite an unusual piece.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.

Recommended for making scarf or accessories
