dividerFabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE

For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Light, but dense weave, somewhat translucent, dark brown silk (like a darker Hershey Chocolate color) deconstructed from a woman's kimono; This is a 1960s  or earlier fabric piece which is interwoven checkerboard pattern, 1 inch /  2.54 cm square elements, the elements with "X" filling the squares are all with sheen; Also, with a few brocaded dots of metallic  thread placed randomly, and in bright gold and lime-green metallic threads (see closeups); The brocades have  threads on the reverse; The weave is distinctive in that it is thicker yet translucent, with a bit of elasticity; This has some drape and we recommend this be used to make scarf or accessory.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.
