Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's deadstock found as a roll, unused, factory bin. 

Fabric Description Details:  Checkerboard patterns, elements  average 1 inch / 2.54cm wide, silk Japanese pongee silk called tsumugi,  medium weight, not translucent, and slightly stiff; The checkered/checkerboard look is done by different dyes in the style tsumugi weave; colors of the weave are often in gradation from moss-greens, dark blues, light blues, brown, to tans and purples; the intentional dyes within the elements intentionally go into the neighboring elements;The pattern is the same on both sides: To us, this has a feel of raw silk to the touch; excess weave threads at edges; please see closeups.
