Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly translucent, stiff; very dark indigo (almost black) background color fabric with stylized flowers and thin stems; design colors are pale aqua-blue, blue and gray-blue (Please see close-ups); same on both sides.
Condition: Excellent; Still slightly firm, the fabric softens with wash. (hand-wash separately, with lukewarm water-- see our FAQ Pages for cleaning tips.
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here. Because of the methods used, authentic kasuri is usually highly expensive. More info on kasuri below:
