Item Details and Description
- Fabric History/Pedigree: 1950s or earlier silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, expert on Japanese textiles HERE .)
- Fabric Description: Meisen silk, is medium weight, NOT transparent, woven in what feels like a slightly chirimen (crepe)-like feel - rough to the touch; background color being dark purple; The rows and columns of oval shapes (3.5 inches / 8.89cm long) are symmetrical with smaller (1.25 inches/31.75mm) long oval shapes placed in alternating rows at blank spaces between the larger figures rows; The colors in the ovals are silver white and light lavenders, gradation colored; note the intentionally fuzzy edges to all figures & lines; This piece same on both sides; moderate sheen;

There's even a term for these girls -- not surprisingly they are called "kimono girls." There are even some nice books documenting the trend which you can check out at J-List and are definitely worth having if you are at all into fashion.
