Fabric History/Provenance: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This is textured lightweight silk derived from a 1980s woman's kimono; Background color is a solid dark green with all designs/figures etc. in a bright yellow (thin lines); While there are partial open fans in the motif, the entire design is of ornate, almost Baroque curlicues and complex medallions with many types of flowers; Of note are the irregularly obtusely-shaped bordered areas, sort of a puzzle look to it; We see this piece as an almost Western (non-Japanese) design, to us giving it the feel of a more modernistic motif;

The crepe interwoven is not a chirimen texture, but is like thin parallel lines of water flowing in streams (background, can be seen in last close-up); and as a result this fabric has a more textured feel to it than most other chirimen from the same period; same on both sides; fair drape.
