dividerFabric History/Provenance: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This is thin, almost sheer very textured silk derived from a 1960s woman's summer kimono; Background colors are a range of blues, grays, and plum colors with tiny pixels used to create nested oblong shapes, all overlapping and streaming diagonally; We are hard pressed to come up with good words to describe this design; Likewise, the color is a mix of dark blues, colonial blues, various shaddes of purple and places that have iridescent quality;
CULTURAL BACKGROUND NOTE:
This sort of abstract or modernized kimono fabric design shows up in 50s - 60s pieces  from time to time, reflective of social and artistic freedom changes for Japanese artists and designers after World War II. During the war  Imperial Japan was very controlling of all art and media. So, when designers and artists were released from the oppression of Imperial Japan in 1945, artists tried out all sorts of things borrowed from the West; This is just one of them.  We see this piece as an almost Western (non-Japanese)  design, yet still with a Japanese sense to it -- of course, this is just our opinion.
