Item Details and Description

Fabric History/Pedigree:  1980s deadstock kimono wool fabric, never used, unsold stock. This is a double-wide, also called 'factory cut', as it is twice the usual width of fabrics used to make Japanese kimonos, which average 14-15 inches wide in rolls/bolts of 12yds/11m.

Fabric Type: Lightweight wool, minimally translucent, slight drape; Japanese wool is a smoother and tighter weave than many Western worsted types of wool. (Interesting discussion of the term worsted wool is here); this one is fairly smooth.

Motifs: This an interesting interwoven motif evocative of 1950s Meisen silks with large fuzzy-edged figures of flowers and shapes with a definite Impressionistic feel; designs on one side; bright-red background with tortoiseshell designs, oblique geometric shapes rendered in black bands; Within alternating spaces, there are light-to-dark gray, black, and off-white flower designs; peach color accents in the centers of the floral spaces.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices.

Recommended for making scarfs/accessories.

Condition: Excellent.
