For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Lightweight silk, somewhat translucent, deconstructed  from woman's kimono; This fabric pattern is the classic *Tatewaku "Rising Steam" (Please follow link to NGV, Victoria Australia Art Museum -- scroll down for an excellent description of meaning of Takewaku); this version of the Tatewaku motif also includes buds, leaves/vines as part of the undulating vertical bands; The background  is of off-white color, but majority iof the fabric is a dark Hershey Chocolate color for the rising steam with vines & leaves etc.; Also, note what looks like black calligraphy lines, Chinese-Japanese cursive style characters in a subtle foreground effect across the rising columns;  fabric is smooth to touch but no sheen; motifs on one side.

.Colors:  Reminder that colors on different devices can vary significantly, please use our text color descriptions in your consideration.
