 Item Details and Description:

  • Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960's tsumugi (pongee) silk pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE

  • Fabric Description:  Japanese vintage traditional Tsumugi is a pongee type silk-making process using raw silk threads; the background is black and burgundy-red stripes and bands of various thicknesses running lengthwise; also,rectangular shapes are partial widths,and these rectangles' interiors decorated with geometric and other shapes and figures(see pictures); The largest of the rectangular figures is 8 inches/20.32cm X 5.5 inches/13.97cm; other design colors are several shades of brown, some light mustard and dark reds; designs same on both sides; this tsumugi is a  light fabric,  translucent, not stiff and slightly smooth to touch,  but no sheen.
