Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE;

Fabric Description: White lightweight silk, only slightly translucent, and deconstructed from a younger woman's kimono, a furisode formal type, probably for single woman late teens to early 20s (per custom); This is a 1960s fabric piece which has a solid milk-white background; Motifs fill the piece with large clusters of various flowers, bordered by checkerboard as well as hexagonal grid patterns; Some of these grids are in cloud boundaries shapes; the common mock-shibori (dappled dots etc, usually in a field);

This piece is a rich motif, replete with multiple flower types: chrysanthemums (more than one type), peonies, cherry and plum blossoms (on branches as well), several stylized flowers of uncertain types; throughout the fabric there is thin applique metallic silver border lines of most every part of the motif ( We could not get this to show up well in closeups, but the fabric sparkles in bright light at side-angles).

Colors used for the motif are rull spectrum of bright and dark colors. from light pink and yellows, to dark orange and reds, as well as dark aqua-blues; These designs are on one side but can be seen muted on the reverse.
