dividerFabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE

 For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Very fine, soft lightweight silk, translucent and deconstructed from a younger woman's kimono; This is a 1960s  fabric piece which has a peach color background with  entire fabric interwoven with wide variety of traditional retro themes, designs; These are interwoven for entire fabric, and is in sheen.

Here are some of the retro (to Edo Period , late 1800s) themes/designs interwoven throughout this fabric:  Imperial or artistocratic manors with various types of classic style fences with portal gates, trees, clouds, momiji maple leaves, bamboo leaves, small ponds, and persimmons;

As for the printed foreground designs, this is an unusual motif, including the following: Stream-like winding swaths with burgundy-red, white as outer bounds of the streams, with some spaces as pink between the 2 bounds; The white has daisy mums an very small three-dots and other  tiny flowers; within the burgundy-red are parallel tiny flower columns in parallel or in thatched diagonal design; Also there are small (under 1 inch / 2.54cm) flower orbs;  In the other stream shape, there is also white and gray backgrounds in addition to what is in separate streams, and also there are what might be peach blossoms; Other colors used:  light creamy-white, mustard-yellow, dark green, characoal-gray, and pink; as a print, all this is on one side but due to thinness of the farbric can be seen somewhat on reverse; quite alot going on here.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.
