Fabric History/Pedigree:  Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by clicking HERE

For an excellent 'how-to' do  Arai-Hari oneself, we highly recommend Kae Warnock's Blog, Chocolate Factotum:

Fabric Description: Light-medium weight silk deconstructed from a woman's kimono; This is a 1980s  or earlier fabric piece which is orange background color, with white in some (larger) fans; motif is an interesting array of many types of traditional Japanese fans - in all manners of open or closed - all as if afloat or falling) see our first/top image); There is actual tie-dyed shibori of the white fans. but the usual small dots done in shibori, seem to be printed clusters, yet with signs of actual tie-dying of larger white fans; Another distinction of this fabric is its use of fine lined applique in single-line metallic gold along borders of all fans; Furthermore, note the very subtle interwoven motifs of clouds and fans, these are barely visible, but can be seen in solid areas up close; colors used in the fans are red, black, blue, deep red, mixed colors, gold, & white; please see closeups.

Note on colors: Since all devices display colors differently, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the fabric's color.
