Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s-50s silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Type: Thin, delicate lightweight silk, soft, translucent fabric; no-sheen, bright color designs; print on one side but mostly visible on reverse; background fabric color is dark blue and interwoven throughout with the diagonal maze type design associated with temples traditionally in subtle background; There are many round fans (the kind sold at matsuri /festivals) as well as mon (family crests), In addition to many types of flowers, leaves bamboo leaves;the designs also include Uchide no Kozuchi (Lucky Mallet) ; (Please see close-ups).; THis fabric is from a kimono that traditionally was worn when going to a temple or a festival (matsuri); in the traditional way, this colorful and abundant floral design would be worn by a single young woman ( 19-20s). In modern times these 'rules' about who, when, and where to wear kimonos are often not held to as strictly in recent years of the early 21st century.
