Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s kimono silk fabric pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Type:  Lightweight, minimally translucent silk; textured but not quite chirimen (crepe); designs on front side but almost same seen on reverse;  the background is a  tan color with darker tan used in background; Motif is of a classic country Japanese home, with various tubs and cleaning utensils, as well as noren (cotton doorway hanging) land various utensils found in a country or farmhouse of Old Japan; The motif is comprised of irregular, obtuse shapes(tiles) with darker tan in between them, resembling a flat stone walkway image; Each of the tiles has a different scene from Japanese traditional country farm home; Also, the way this is rendered it has the look seen in Okinawan textiles called Bingata; Note the application of dark blue, red and green to random parts of the scene; We're thinking this may have been an abandoned fabric where multiple templates are used to print the various levels; just an guess on our part; Soft and some drape;(Please see close-ups).

Colors: Please consider our text descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric, as colors and contrast differ on different devices.

Condition: Excellent for age.
