Fabric History/Provenance: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This lightweight silk piece is fine, minimally translucent, derived from a woman's kimono, probably a furisode; fabric has an interwoven pattern throughout, though barely visible where there are designs; this pattern is parallel undulating lines with flowers within; background color is a lighter shade of burgundy, full spectrum of colors used in the floral royal carriage, orange, mustard, purples, black, others; the stylized arching screens* are thin pinstripes in parallel, off-white;

Motif Details: *BACKGROUND INFO: The arching screen designs referenced above are - we believe - an artistic rendering of the sun-shade screens that Edo Dynasty royalty (Emperor) used when traveling, or at an encampment. We considered that this screen-look might be a noshi decorative panels/ribbons, but concluded the creators intended the imperial screens; The motifs are royal flower carts, with different flowers in each cluster, including chrysanthemums, camelias, peonies, pine trees, peach blossoms;

Sheen is throughout but more noticeable in the areas without designs and in lighter colors within the various elements; designs are intended for one-side display; soft and good drape.

It is recommended for making scarf/accessories.
