Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from a traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: Lightweight chirimen (light crepe) silk deconstructed, from a woman's formal kimono; This is a1930s-50s fabric piece which is a mustard and red background but is mostly filled with designs; Background is interwoven with temari balls and leaves (only easily seen in background mustard  color areas which are also in sheen; Motif is based on traditional colorful noshi, decorative ribbons used with gift wrapping.

The noshi bands fill the fabric, cascading , and are decorated with brightly colored flowers, stems, ribbons and other classic Japanese designs, multiple flower types, pine trees, chrysanthemums, peonies and more; Colors used: red, green, mustard, orange, black, white and few dark plum accents; fabric is slightly textured, resembling chirimen but is only lightly so; designs on one side.
