Fabric History/Pedigree: Deadstock unsold bolt of fabric, new condition but from another era, the 1980s; In original bindings and maker's label, This is a hakkake bolt; see explanation below.
Fabric Description: 100% Japanese fine silk in two colors (gradations): cream and dark vermillion (shuiro); has soft sheen; in original bindings and labels; this was on sale in the 1990s for ¥4800 = 1990s US$34; hakkake originally used for inside liners, cuffs, and edgings in 8 places on adult kimono, sometimes also used for haori liners.
Cultural Background Information on Hakkake: An hakkake means, literally, "8-hanging-fabrics"; The number 8 refers to 8 places on the insides of a kimono where this fabric is used.
