Fabric Description: Lightweight silk originally intended to make a younger woman's kimono; This is a 1960's fabric piece which is a medium-dark lavender color background that is filled with small diamond figures in symmetrical grid designs; Motif called a komon (lit. 'small crest(mon)' type due to its use of very small (usually 1 inch or less) elements; The white diamond figures range from 1/4 inch (6.35mm) to 1/2 inch(12.7mm) and have thin tan lines in each; The larger diamonds form a swath of sine-wave running up down the full length (top to bottom); This type komon is popular among dollmakers and others in small-scale creative projects; Also, the background is filled with interwoven specks that are brighter sheen;  designs on one side, but detectable on reverse; please view last close-up image showing reverse specks.
