Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: Lightweight silk originally intended to make a woman's dress kimono; This is a 1960's fabric piece that is background in gradation shades of light blue to darker blue and then gradation to whites and silver colors; Interwoven throughout are small (3/4 inch/19.05mm at longest) blossoms filling the fabric; The foreground designs are at each end, the largest filling bottom third of the piece; The motifs are of chrysanthemums, daffodils, bamboo leaves, tall grass, pine branches and clouds (all in classic rendering); fabric has interwoven silver metallic threads that are subtle in the lower design portion (bottom third); also there is thin metallic silver thread in selvage on both sides; Fabric is high sheen and bright in presentation; Colors for the motifs are darker blue, shades of colonial blues , all in gradation shading; esigns on one side, but detectable on reverse.
