Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s-50s silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This high-quality, 1930s-1950s kimono silk is a lightweight fabric, slightly translucent; Background color is a lighter shade of burgundy red and the fabric is fully interwoven with a full field of overlapping rectangle shapes, each shape having different interwoven designs that include the following: waves, rippling water, veined leaves, flowers, clouds, shibori-dots-like patterns, and groups of small rectangles in random arrays; these interwoven background patterns have a sheen, so the fabric as a whole has an overall sheen; The foreground colored rectangles are in groups of 3 or 4 overlapping configurations.

The colors used in the foreground rectangles are dark plum, mustard, and black; the edges of the mustard figures are white, and the other rectangles have some thin metallic gold borders. Motifs are seen on both sides.

The soft fabric feels lightly textured due to the extent of the interweaving, also has a nice drape, good for making scarf or accessories.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices; (Technical note: Our first image of the full length seems closer to actual color than our closeups, at least on our devices here).

Condition: Excellent.
