Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s-50s silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: This high-quality, 1930s-1950s silk is a lightweight fabric and was probably for use in making a furisode (formal kimono); it is very slightly translucent; Background color is a dark salmon(orange) and the fabric is fully interwoven with large-scale designs that include the following: tsuzumi (drums), fans, crests, and decorative cords & tassels; These interwoven background patterns have a sheen;

The colorful and striking foreground motifs include: large-scale decorated fans, cords & tassels, temari balls, peonies, plum & cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, peaches & a partial view of what looks like a wrapped gift; Wide range of colors used in the ornate flowers, etc of the foreground to include the following: white, pink, green, blue, dark violet, plum, black, gold, yellow, and orange;  Motifs are seen on one side only;

The soft-to-the-touch fabric has a good drape, good for making scarf or accessories, suitable for framing.
