Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s-50s chirimen silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Type:  Lightweight high-quality chirimen (crepe) silk, undyed, the color of raw silk (cream-tan) throughout, probably intended for making a nagajuban; Textured to the touch and is barely translucent; there are interwoven designs of wild grass (switchgrass) and flowers, but we could not get them to render in photos: Even in bright light, seen up close, the patterns are hard to see with the naked eye-- but they're there.

Recommended for use in making scarves or other accessories; suitable for dyeing projects to bring out the interwoven designs.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices.

Condition: Excellent.
