Fabric Description: Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric.
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly firm; dark navy-blue color fabric with designs in light blues, burgundy-red and green; Motifs are typical Kasuri(Ikat): geometric oval clusters in even rows and columns; the oval shapes are about 2.25 inches/5.71 cm at largest dimension; The burgundy-red designs are composed of thin hashtag-like pinlines (see close-ups); same on both sides.
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
