Item Details and Description

Fabric History/Pedigree: 1980's fabric, deadstock (like new, never used from another era) for use in making silk kimono; 100% Japanese silk; found as a partial roll with original tag still intact; designs shown are continuous on one side; this is an Aizome (Japanese Indigo plant dyed) fabric; Original full roll of this fabric cost 86,400 (Japanese Yen)  - about US$800 in 1980; a full roll would have been 12yds/11m on average.

Fabric Type: Light-medium weight silk originally for use in making nicer woman's kimono; the fabric is textured, sort of a chirimen (crepe), but slightly stiff; Motif is based on traditional noshi, decorative ribbons used with gift wrapping (To see the cultural info on Noshi, please visit HERE); The noshi are decorated with various traditional designs, flowers, fans, wheels; Background color is a colonial blue with figures and lines in thin white; some spaces between the noshi are in a dark blue-gray; also, note some accents here and there in burgundy and mustard.

Colors: Please use our text color descriptions to complement your sense of the fabric due to differences in contrast and color on different devices.
