Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: Lightweight 1960s silk; originally intended to make a woman's summer-wear kimono or nagajuban; fabric is textured due to the shibori (tie-dyed) process; Background color is deep-red with a hint of orange (not quite shuiro/vermillion): Some designs are in pale pastel-blue in classic shibori (tie-dyed) off-white bands and large hemp flower designs(pale blue) arrayed diagonally; this latter hemp leaf motif is a special one, dating back centuries, called asa-no-ha (hemp leaves); note the diamond shapes configured around circles; the interesting aspect of this ancient motif is that it looks different depending on how you look at it -- many different geometric figures appear depending on depth of focus; Designs are same on both sides; slightly textured.
Note on colors: As all devices have different colorations and contrast, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the color of the fabric.
