Item Details and Description:
Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: This is a 1960s silk piece; light-medium weight (not translucent); the background is a dark plum color and all motifs are rendered by brocade method using copper color, brown, silver, and a light gray-blue threads throughout; motif designs are maple leaves and ikebana-like branches, as well as peonies, making this a distinctive piece; On reverse all the brocade threads are visible; the fabric is smoothwith very slight sheen, except that the brocade areas, of course, are textured to the touch; probably intended to make an upper-grade woman's kimono. Recommended for making scarf or accessory.
