Item Details and Description:
Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
- Fabric Description: This is a 1960s silk piece; light-medium weight (not translucent); the background is a peachy-pink color and all motifs are rendered by brocade method using mostly silver with some golden metallics in most of the designs throughout; motif designs are various flower types and leaves, but not including the usual chrysanthemums, making this a rather unusual piece; Other colors in designs are dark tan, gray and a few muted rusty-burgundy; On reverse all the brocade threads are visible; the fabric is smooth but no-sheen, except that the brocade areas, of course, are textured to the touch; probably intended to make a formal woman's kimono. Recommended for making scarf or accessory.
