Fabric Description: Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric.
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly firm (not stiff); black fabric with designs in red and white; Motifs are typical kasuri: geometric 3 inch (7.62 cm) tall diamond shapes in diagonal rows, each 3-inch shape itself is made up of smaller fuzzy geometric figures; also, vertical small plus/cross shapes run in parallel rows lengthwise; same on both sides.
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
