Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s-50's silk fabric pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner / reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Type: Lightweight silk, slightly translucent, similar to rinzu but no sheen; motifs on one side,but visible on reverse, the background is black with motifs of phoenix, peonies, lotus (symbol often associated with Buddhist Japanese temples); Designs are rendered by tiny lateral pinstripes which are black on the front, rouge-red on the reverse (see the last picture for back view of reds); Colors of the designs are burgundy-red, pale blue and several other shades of red; (see close-ups).
