Fabric Description: Deadstock never used, Japanese vintage kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric; Because it has images, this type is sometimes called e-gasuri (lit. picture-kasuri).
Fabric Type: Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, still firm; black fabric with designs in deep and dark reds as well as white to off-white; Motifs are classic kasuri: geometric hash-tag-like shapes, small leaves and roses that are red or off-white.
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia; ) ; Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques used to create the sorts of patterns seen here.
