Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description: Lightweight silk originally intended to make a woman's kimono; This is a distinctive fabric piece from the 30s to 50s; the background is a red-orange(lighter vermilion color) with interwoven patterns of geometrics, mon(crests), tortoiseshell hexagonal grids, curlicue lines, and traditional streams; Designs are complex and multi-colored bright and ornate designs that include: decorated fans, phoenix, doves, decorative ribbons, decorated fabrics(looks like an open book), and various size circular figures, and Temari balls;  This piece is a truly distinctive combination of many classic traditional Japanese motifs with a full spectrum of colors, from dark purple to pink-white; (see closeups);  designs on one side but mostly visible on reverse; there is slight sheen in the interwoven patterns described above; slight drape.
