Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Lightweight silk originally intended to make a woman's kimono; This is a 1960's fabric piece which is a cream-tan background color with motifs in mock-bingata, based on an Okinawan batik style; motif on one side, slightly visible on reverse;fabric has a slight texture, similar to chirimen; mock-bingata style motif is of bamboo leaves, plum blossoms, peonies. and ribbon-like curving lines in background throughout; design colors include gray-blues, various browns, iron-red to mauve as well.
