Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.

Fabric Description:  Thin lightweight silk originally intended to make a woman's kimono; This is a 1930s-1940s fabric piece which is slightly translucent in bright light; designs are an unusual rendering of a sort of tortoiseshell grid (only irregularly shaped components); Background is gray with black boundary lines for the oddly-shaped figures; Also, an abstract-art sort of sensibility with random placements of odd decorative shapes; colors of the designs: iron-red, black, pink, grays, and off-white. Designs on one side only, visible slightly on the reverse.

Note on colors: As all devices have differing coloration, please use our text descriptions of colors to complement your sense of the color of the fabric.
