Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Fine lightweight silk, slightly translucent, originally intended to make a woman's kimono; This is a higher quality silk fabric piece with a soft-gray background which also has interwoven large circular patterns which resemble family crests(mon); the design is print on one side, visible on reverse; motifs are of two slightly cursive bands (representing fabric?) running parallel lengthwise; these 2 bands are dark purple background with maple leaves, chrysanthemums and classically rendered waves design; design colors are moss-green, rusty-iron, tan, light mustard and subdued whites; soft to touch, nice drape typical of 1930s Japanese silks; Suitable for framing.
