Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall,by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description: Very lightweight silk originally intended to make a woman's summer kimono, quite translucent; This is a 1980's fabric piece done in an unusually small and dense weave giving it a rougher texture; background color is dark plum, designs are muted silver-white; This design is a sort of mock-kasuri weave pattern look, apparently suggestive of a vertical flower; also, as in kasuri patterns there are rough edges to the figures; design same on both sides; no sheen.
