Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s lightweight silk fabric piece received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description:
1960s Japanese silk kimono fabric which has a black background with interwoven decorative ribbons running lengthwise; also different-sized brocaded squares (largest is 3 inches/7.62cm square); designs are on one side; back is negative coloring of the front - burgundy background with black ribbons and brocade threads; There are also metallic silver or gold threads used in the square figures, as well as a few of these lengthwise; a few very tiny pinholes along the center(these can only be seen with bright light behind the fabric).
