Item Details and Description
Fabric History/Pedigree: Pieces received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner /reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Type: Light-medium weight wool, slight drape; Japanese wool is a smoother and tighter weave than many Western worsted types of wool. (Interesting discussion of the term worsted wool is here.)
Motifs: This an interesting interwoven motif evocative of 1950s Meisen silks with large fuzzy-edged figures of flowers and branches or vines with a definite Impressionistic feel; designs same on both sides; tan background with desings in various shades of burgundy, salmon and black.
