Fabric History/Pedigree: 1950s lightweight silk fabric piece received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Description:
1960s Japanese silk kimono fabric which has a black background with designs on one side; back is solid black; Front motif is a symmetrical grid composed of 3" x 2" (5,62cm X 5.08 cm) elongated hexagons in rows, filling the fabric completely; Designs composed of tiny mum flowers as background with centers being either stylized maple leaves or stylized cherry-blossoms; colors used are off-whites, muted silver and some of the decorated hexagons with burgundy-red accents at the center; the fabric is not as smooth as most, slightly textured feel and less drape.
