Fabric History/Pedigree: 1960s silk fabric piece received from traditional Japanese kimono cleaner/reconstructor called Arai-Hari -- see an excellent explanation of traditional Arai Hari by textile expert John Marshall, by click-pushing HERE.
Fabric Type: Originally used in woman's everyday kimono; lightweight Fabric is slightly translucent, very textured, similar to chirimen, but the rougher touch is due to the tiny "+" pixels interwoven throughout; Background is an unusual shade of brown with a touch of olive green color; There are also tiny flecks of light aqua-blue in the background pixels (these are scarcely visible but affect the overall color; the designs are of oblique and slightly curving lines in an irregular grid throughout; This design has a distinctly Western sense to it, sometimes found in the 50s-60s in Japan as fabric makers experimented with different and non-Japanese themes; fabric has slight drape, recommended for making scarf or accessories.
Condition: Excellent.
